Raincoat and umbrella fabrics differ in materials and properties.

In terms of materials, raincoat fabrics typically prioritize waterproofing and durability. Common materials include PVC-coated fabrics, which offer excellent waterproofing and effectively prevent rainwater penetration. TPU materials are also popular, offering a soft texture and relatively good waterproof performance. Umbrella fabrics, on the other hand, are generally lighter and thinner for easier carrying and opening. Common examples include polyester fabrics, which offer good tear resistance and some water resistance.

In terms of properties, raincoat fabrics need to withstand significant water pressure to prevent rainwater from seeping into the body, hence their high waterproof rating. Their surface may be smoother to reduce water adhesion. Umbrella fabrics, however, need to be breathable to prevent the user from feeling stuffy while using the umbrella, and also need a certain degree of flexibility for easy folding and opening.

Furthermore, raincoat fabrics tend to use brighter colors to increase visibility in the rain and improve safety. Umbrella fabrics offer a wider variety of colors to choose from, allowing for selection based on personal preference. In short, both have their own characteristics in different aspects to meet people's different rain protection needs.
